Bush Won – A few thoughts

It is official now. George Bush has won re-election. John Kerry has just conceded. He gave a very positive speech. One can only hope President Bush will attempt to seriously unite the country not only in words but in deeds. Unfortunately that is unlikely to occur.

Analyzing the exit polls clearly illustrates that a substantial portion of Bush’s winning margin was effected by the evangelical’s mobilization and Kerry’s faction’s inability to mobilize progressives liberals and moderate republicans. There is something to learn from these people. We have two years to work on this for the next congressional election.

I am convinced that a large percentage of our population chooses to be ignorant on real issues the path of least resistance. In reviewing the attack commercials on both sides one thing is evident; most direct attacks by the right on Kerry went unchallenged while each attack from the left on Bush was quickly cauterized.

Examples:

  1. The Kerry blowing in the wind and flip/flop commercial should immediately have been answered with a barrage of Bush flip/flops. You can find these by clicking here. ”

  2. The veterans for truth commercial opened the door to hit Bush hard not only on his lack of service and discipline while hiding in the Texas National Guard but on the drug rumors for him missing the physical he was ordered to take.

These are but 2 examples; however if they were answered quickly two things would have happened. The first is that Bush would have been a bit more careful with misrepresentations for fear of the immediate answer. The second is that the flip/flop and Vietnam Service issues would not have metastasized in the American psyche.

Kerry misunderstood one major principle. He assumed the average american was interested in analyzing these commercials and figuring out what was true false or dubious. Unfortunately most people simply want to be fed information. They are not interested in mentally processing or researching the material before forming an opinion.
