It is sad that teachers, those whose are the first contact our children have with organized learning are demeaned so demeaned in Texas specifically and generally throughout the country. Reality is we present teachers with our most precious assets, our children. If we expect the result of their work to be enlightened, educated and informed children, then we should be willing to respect their value accordingly, cherish them accordingly, and definitely pay them appropriately.
I always loved and looked up to my teachers. I am the product of having great teachers who with very little produced a lot. Until we as a country atone for the vilification being imposed on our teachers, the progressive decline in the intellect and preparedness of our children will continue its decline. Bad policy has long lasting consequences.
