One can only hope that Americans are watching. They are watching a party that will continue to hold them hostage to ensure that the wealthy and privilege few will pay nothing to assist in reducing our deficits and investing in our country.
It is time for Americans to wake up. It is time that Americans stop believing the fallacies of the Republicans that removing regulations and further cutting taxes would some how help the economy.
It is provably false. After all we have been under massive tax cuts for the last 10 years and there is no economic activity to show for it. Under Clinton with marginally higher rates there was a vibrant economy because the wealthy was not hoarding as much income and wealth as they are now.
Texas would lose 60,000 jobs if Congress fails to pass highway bill, White House says
Texas stands to lose 59,271 construction jobs over the next year if Congress fails to extend surface transportation spending that expires Sept. 30. That’s the warning from Obama administration officials who are trying to rally public pressure on Congress to support the temporary reauthorization of spending that has been okayed seven times over the last two years.
White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer told reporters on a conference call this morning that Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill should act together to prevent any lapse in the $51.5 billion in annual federal spending that supports highway projects and transit construction.
A lapse in the flow of federal reimbursements for state and local infrastructure projects could imperil 134,000 road projects and 5,000 transit projects, the White House said in a report. That in turn could jeopardize the jobs of 4,000 federal employees and nearly 1 million contractor jobs nationwide.
“It shouldn’t be as hard as it has become recently,” said Pfeiffer. “It’s not about (Republicans) using every single opportunity to force their ideological agenda through. If people can just do the blocking and tackling of governing and making sure we don’t put folks out of work for no reason, this should be able to get done.”
