This is the classic example of how Republicans lie to Americans. One of the new
talking points by the GOP is that Healthcare.gov violates HIPAA (Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act ).

The Security Rule specifies a series of administrative, physical, and technical safeguards for covered entities and their business associates to use to assure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information.
Republican Congresswoman is asked by CNN’s Carol Costello the following.
Specifically what medical information does the website ask for? And specifically what private information that the government doesn’t already have does the website ask for?
Representative Blackburn was unable to give any specific instance where the website violated HIPAA. She simply deflects. When told that the only health information asked was whether one smokes or not, she simply ignored that fact and stayed with her talking points.
Carol Costello effectively showed that the Republican attacks were unfounded. She also proves that the GOP is oblivious to facts even when provided. The fact is that healthcare.gov does not violate HIPAA.
