There’s a populist fire sweeping the Midwestern prairie. Not only can it save Democratic control of the Senate, but it can elect a “better Democrat” in the fine Paul Wellstone tradition.
The latest poll in South Dakota shows Democrat Rick Weiland within four points of beating Republican Mike Rounds, who up until recently was viewed as a “shoo-in.” Republicans are wetting their pants, because they just threw another $1 million into this deep red state.
As I reported last week, Daily Kos is working with MoveOn to make phone calls to Democratic voters in targeted Senate races who don’t usually vote in midterm elections—and this week, there are two shifts available to make calls for Weiland: on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Please sign up here for a shift, and you’ll be on your way to making calls from home.
Also, if you live in one of four major metro areas (Seattle, Bay Area, Chicago and New York), MoveOn has field offices—where they’ll all be making phone calls Tuesday night for Rick Weiland.
Besides endorsing Weiland, Daily Kos is fundraising for the South Dakota NDN Election Efforts PAC—a grassroots operation to get-out-the-vote on Native-American reservations.
South Dakota has nine Indian reservations, where a significant turnout operation can win close elections for Democrats. These are desperately poor communities with low turnout, in part because the cost of gas money to drive to the polls can be prohibitively expensive. Our community has responded very strongly so far, so let’s keep pushing and upping our goals.
Will you donate $3 to Rick Weiland’s campaign and our GOTV operation?
