GOP ‘winning message’ continues to insult women’s intelligence

Oh my gawd, Republicans, when it comes to women, shut up shut up shut up. Just stop your inane blathering at us. It is so insulting to hear things like this:

For far too long, Democrats have perpetuated the stereotype that women are single-issue voters.

What single issue is that even supposed to be? Oh, right, abortion. Except that now, Republicans are also trying to jam birth control access in under the abortion umbrella in their “single-issue voter” accusations. And they’re expecting us not to notice that defunding Planned Parenthood doesn’t just attack abortion, it attacks preventive health care and cancer screenings.

And then there’s equal pay, which it would be really difficult to put under the abortion umbrella but which we’re equally supposed to dismiss. Just forget you’re being underpaid, damn it! The insults continue:

Women deserve better than being treated like a special interest group. We’re the majority of voters! And we care about everything—from jobs, to health care, to national security.

Yes! We do deserve better than being treated like a special interest group, but even more, we deserve better than being treated like a no-interest-at-all group! When we care about jobs, we care about being paid fairly. And having the minimum wage not be a poverty wage. When we care about health care, we’d rather not have our gender be treated as a pre-existing condition. Which are also reasons women are more likely to favor Democrats. Who’s treating women more like a special interest group—the party actually incorporating women’s issues into its campaigns, or the party releasing a stream of condescending web videos insisting that because women aren’t single-issue voters, they won’t really mind if said party ignores all women’s issues?

Getting called out by editorial boards may not change Democrats’ ways. But losing the Senate in November would send a clear message that women in America want better than political games.

Um, would that clear message be sent even if more women voted for Democrats than Republicans?

Notice that once again, this supposed GOP “winning message” on women doesn’t actually say anything about positions Republicans hold that actually appeal to women. “Women care about jobs” is a pretty f’ing broad statement. What are Republicans proposing on jobs that women prefer to Democratic positions on jobs? The video, like basically all GOP women’s outreach, is silent on that point.

Please give $3 to help elect Democratic women up and down the ballot.

Voting by mail is convenient, easy, and defeats the best of the GOP’s voter suppression efforts. Sign up here to check eligibility and vote by mail, then get your friends, family, and coworkers to sign up as well.

Republicans can’t even bring themselves to reach out to actual women. All their talk about women is squarely aimed at the media, looking for media reports that Republicans are now reaching out to women. And that’s a pretty good clue: If you’re trying to decide which party cares more about women, you might rule out the one that does a lot more talking about women than talking to them.
