Michelle Nunn leads proud outsourcer David Perdue in latest poll

Another day, another piece of evidence proudly defending your career as an outsourcer isn’t the way to win a U.S. Senate election. The latest:

ATLANTA — For the first time, Michelle Nunn leads the race for Georgia’s Senate seat. In an exclusive 11Alive poll conducted by Survey USA, Democrat Michelle Nunn leads likely voters 48 percent to Republican David Perdue’s 45 percent. Libertarian Amanda Swafford grabs 3 percent, just enough votes to possibly force a runoff.

The survey didn’t explore Perdue’s mumbling, bumbling, and stumbling over the outsourcing issue, but the gains Nunn made came from the voters that Perdue cannot afford to lose:

Compared to last week’s Survey USA poll, Nunn has gained ground among men. She still trails men by 3 percent, but five weeks ago, she was trailed among men by 19 percent. She also saw improvement among independents, 6 points behind Perdue instead of the 28 points in August. Nunn as lead Greater Atlanta by as little as 10 points, but now carries a solid 22-point lead.

We don’t have any Georgia endorsements this cycle, so if you want to give to Nunn, you’ll have to go to her campaign site. But if you’re still looking for great Democrats to give to, as this election goes down to the wire, we’ve got a bunch of great candidates to choose from.

Yesterday, we learned that Democrats were committing $1 million to Georgia to help put Nunn over the top. The reason: Internal Democratic polling showed her leading and close to the 50 percent she needs to avoid a runoff. It can be tempting to write off internal polling, even though that $1 million commitment was pretty clear evidence that the polling was real. But this new public survey seals the deal: Georgia is in play—and Michelle Nunn has a real shot of staging an improbable victory over proud outsourcer David Perdue.
