Where we’re different is some of us believe that the corporations and billionaires who already have more, deserve more. Tax breaks that will hurt programs that the rest of us depend on. Like Medicare and Social Security. The rest of us believe it’s time we got a break instead. I’m on the side of the rest of us.
Seriously, in an election cycle where we’re forced to defend the likes of Mark Pryor and Mary Landrieu, the fact that we have a genuine populist like Rick Weiland to rally around is a godsend.
And what is his campaign doing with our donations? We asked, and got the following update from the campaign:
So far, and thanks in large part to the support of DailyKos, our field program has taken off. In a state where around 400,000 people will vote this year, we have made close to 200,000 calls, knocked on 20,000 doors, and mailed hand written follow up postcards to more than 2,500 undecided voters.
We are also going to do a push in the next 4 days to register as many native american voters before registration closes on 10/20. That is why Rick is connecting with the bus tour and will be on the Pine Ridge reservation today and the Rosebud reservation tomorrow. Indian Country is going to have a major say in who is the next South Dakota Senator and who controls the U.S. Senate and we are doing everything we can to make sure they are registered and vote.
Synergy! That’s the same bus tour that is part of the Native American GOTV effort we’re also helping fund. As I publish this, 9,081 of us have raised $217,335 to win this seat. Holy crap!
That’s a lot of you! But there are lots more visiting this site. If you have already engaged in this or another race, then thanks so much for getting off the sidelines! You’re helping us win. If you haven’t yet, stop procrastinating! This is a 50-50 cycle, Democrats can make big gains in governorships and keep control of the Senate—and even upgrade it here in South Dakota!—but we won’t do that sitting on the sidelines. So no need to wait, engage!
