Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted’s plan to put his own name in big letters on official posters inside polling places has come to a tie vote at the Hamilton County board of elections—and Husted gets to cast the tie-breaking vote.
Local Democrats had objected to the easily readable size of Husted’s name on the posters, which are to be hung inside polling places where no other candidate’s name is allowed to appear.
Husted’s spokesman, Matt McClellan said Democrats are interfering with an important message and are punishing the student who created the poster, which depicts a weight lifter hoisting barbells that look like the American flag and the flag of Ohio.
“This poster was designed by a little kid,” McClellan said. “We think that’s a good, positive message and there’s no reason a board shouldn’t want to post this.”
Yes, the good, positive message that you should vote and also that JON HUSTED is the current secretary of state. Also, “designed by a little kid”? Did the little kid determine the size of the lettering used for Jon Husted’s name? That couldn’t have been made smaller—say, the size of the lettering used by previous secretaries of state on similar posters—without insulting the child in question? Yeah, I didn’t think so. This is just one more of Husted’s many moves to use his office for partisan advantage.

Ohio needs a secretary of state who cares more about the right to vote than about the right to use the office of secretary of state to help his own party win elections.
