I don’t know who on Iowa Rep. Steve King’s staff convinced him to clam up these last weeks, but they deserve not just Steve King’s eternal thanks, but ours as well. It’s been a rare treat. Alas, the fact that King has been keeping mum doesn’t mean he’s stopped campaigning—he’s just been outsourcing the insanity.
[New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie] will attend the Saturday luncheon fundraiser for King for Congress but won’t participate in Sunday’s [pheasant hunt] with King and [Rep. Louie Gohmert], according to King’s campaign.
Handing Louie Gohmert a rifle and telling him to go nuts isn’t even the worst idea Steve King has had this year. He’s also backing up that top-notch star power with Rick “I am in the dictionary now” Santorum and another very special friend:
King also will get some help from New York entrepreneur Donald Trump who will be in Iowa on Saturday to headline a fundraiser at a private residence in West Des Moines.
“I look forward to having Donald J. Trump again visit Iowa,” King said in a statement. “It’s good to have another outspoken fiscal conservative support my re-election campaign.”
Gohmert, Rick Santorum, and Donald Trump. The hellmouth has opened in Iowa.
One person who will not be campaigning on Steve King’s behalf, however? Steve King.
King has a commanding lead in the polls in the fourth district race, and he says he may not participate in next week’s Iowa Public Television debate.
“He has said he may not decide whether he’s going to attend or not until the morning of,” Mowrer says.
It depends on how he’s feeling, I suppose. Everyone just show up, he’ll either be there or he won’t. He’ll let you know.
Help give Steve King the boot. Please chip in $3 to Jim Mowrer’s campaign.

Honestly, it’s a good strategy for him. When you’re known as the biggest loudmouth in Congress, best hold your tongue and let other, more reasonable voices do the talking during your campaign’s final weeks. Reasonable, gaffe-free voices like Louie Gohmert, Rick Santorum, and Donald J. Trump.
