Foley family demands apology from right-wing group for using their son’s murder in campaign ads

Mike Huckabee has no remaining shame.

Good.

The parents of an American journalist beheaded by ISIS militants in a video in August are asking for [a political ad showing images of their son] to be pulled and an apology. […]

The advertisements targeted Democrats running for the Senate in competitive midterm election races.

“I think it is deplorable and there should be an apology,” said John Foley, the father of James, to New England Cable News.

They shouldn’t have to ask. It should be blatantly obvious that if a terrorist group makes a videotape of an act of terrorism in order to terrorize Americans, you should not be promoting those terrorists’ footage as campaign fodder. Whatever line you want to imagine is still in American politics, it crosses it. It is repulsive.

I don’t expect there will be an apology because the group “Secure America Now,” advised by such luminaries as radio host Mike Huckabee and former anti-Ambassador John Bolton, was already craven enough to link Foley’s murder to their own preferred issue, keeping migrants from crossing the (southern) border. Having the parents of the man killed point out that they’re scumbags probably won’t have an effect.

But really, this is monstrous. You do not use the promotional products of terrorism to yourself stoke public terror so that the public will do what you say. This is fucking obvious.
