Eleanor Goldfield hits the nail on the head as she deconstructs why the term Alt-Right is but an attempt to normalize a group of Americans with vicious intents. It makes an evil concept more digestible for many.
Alt-Right is just softening term
You might think it’s pretty easy, but as of late, white supremacists, neo-nazis, and white nationalists have been hiding behind a benign veil so you won’t recognize them until it’s too late. Neo-fascists and White Supremacists want to be called Alt-Right. Here’s the problem with that.
- It softens their horrendous view of the world and makes it sound just alternative or anti-PC.
- Most importantly, it allows us to talk about alt-right as if it’s an acceptable place on the political spectrum, something we should tolerate and respect.
“The language we use to describe things may seem flippant,” Goldfield said. “Don’t confuse being PC with just being f$cking historically accurate. No one settled the U.S. It was colonized. No one discovered the sh$t either because as many comedians have pointed out, that would be like me walking up to your car, stealing your stereo, and then congratulating myself on discovering your car stereo.”
Language has power – and we shouldn’t give that power to neo-nazis.
